What is the best additive for...

...crimping grain that will be fed at high levels?

When crimped material is to be fed at high levels, protein and starch protection are paramount. Graintona has been used on UK farms for over 25 years and its performance with both milking and fattening rations is unrivalled. Extensively trialled with SAC, results found that stock fed on Graintona treated cereal consistently achieved return on investment. Use at
8 litres/tonne regardless of moisture content for a stable clamp with little waste.

...preserving crimped crops with an eye on cost?

Economy does not always have to mean sacrifice. If crimped grain is destined to be fed to stock at an average level, then Graintona's little brother is the answer. Cornsile Xtra is a blend of organic acids chosen for their preserving qualities. This will mean the reduced waste of valuable energy and excellent feedout performance. Use at 5 litres/tonne regardless of moisture content.

...reliability in very wet silage making conditions?

When the weather really does turn against you, it is often best to turn back the clock. For years powerful acids were the accepted preservative for grass silage and in testing conditions they are often a very safe bet. Apply at 2-4 litres/tonne depending on the severity of the weather.

...controlling mould spores in wholecrop and maize silage?

The more forage a farm has to feed, the more self-sufficient it will be. With this in mind, everything possible should be done to eliminate waste. Cropshield is a non-corrosive chemical that contains sulphites to restrict the growth of yeast and moulds plus benzoate to restrict the germination of mould spores. It is one of the few additives on the market to be independently approved in improving aerobic stability.

...allowing flexibility depending on the weather?

If there is one certainty at silage time, it will be the uncertainty over the weather. That is one of the reasons that our largest selling additive is Biophage X. The unique flexibility allows the product to be pre-activated 12 hours prior to use to double in strength or used instantly to supply the recognised industry standard of 1 Million LAB.
It also contains clostridiaphages which fight butyric acid bacteria, the cause of bad smelling silage.

...treating grass silage in low sugar conditions?

A lack of sunshine will seriously reduce the available sugars in grass for a good fermentation. Standard additives cannot utilise fructan sugars which account for 50% of total grass sugars. Biophage Xtreme contains a strain of bacteria that can utilise these fructans ensuring a good fermentation even when the sunshine hours have been limited. A key factor is that it will only drive the PH down to a safe level to ensure there is no acid load on wet silage. Ideal for last minute decisions with its "mix and go" approach.

...applying to drier silage?

More farmers are looking to make drier silage. This has traditionally been the case for big-bale silage but is now creeping into clamps to cut down effluent. Biophage Gold can be used on any dry silage (bale or clamp) to help reduce pH quickly and avoid wastage and mould. This will improve storage and feedout characteristics throughout the season.

...an organic farm situation?

When a farm has organic status, there should be even more emphasis on making quality silage. Restrictions on other feeds to formulate a performing ration means that the more an animal takes from forage the better. Biophage Green makes use of a strain of bacteria that is particularly useful as many clover grass leys can be short in simple grass sugars. This strain can utilise fructan sugars ensuring a powerful but safe performance leaving good quality, stable silage leading to higher protein retention.

...reducing heating and mould on wholecrop silage?

This area is one which many farmers would like to improve on, but struggle with. Biophage Wholecrop will restrict the growth of yeast and moulds, aid stability and provide a palatable feed when the clamp is opened. Active ingredients have been chosen to extend the cool forage life which will reduce losses due to heating.

...controlling waste in maize silage?

Maize is an excellent addition to a diet, but many are disappointed by the waste that can affect clamps. Biophage Maize has specific strains of lactic acid bacteria and enzymes to ensure a rapid fermentation, fed by improved supplies of sugar and the restricted growth of yeast and moulds. Ensure good consolidation to allow this proven additive to get to work quickly.
» ORDER: BIOPHAGE MAIZE

...crimping grain without using an acid?

Biophage CrimpHandling acid can be a concern for some people therefore a powerful inoculant additive is needed to take its place. Biophage Crimp is specifically designed to ensure that crimped, ensiled cereals are stabilised quickly which reduced heating and subsequent losses. Safe to handle and low in odour it is the most advanced alternative to conventional acid.
