Welcome to the June edition of the Mineral Clinic. So far the weather has been a carbon copy of last year. A handful of farmers have got their first cut off the field, but grass yields appear to be lower than normal. The past winter seems to have been the cause of many nutritional upsets this spring. Please read on for what we would advise.....
Many farms will be looking to finish the early born lambs as quickly as possible now or give ewe replacements a boost. We would recommend Ex-Sel Advance Weaning drench. This drench contains readily available vitamins and trace elements for a quick stock response. A lamb at weaning does not have sufficient rumen capacity to synthesise its full vitamin B12 requirement, so by supplementing vitamin B12 via Ex-Sel Advance Weaning drench, the lamb will be better placed to achieve faster and more efficient growth rates. This is a high specification drench designed for all lambs.
For all dairy and suckler farmers, getting the cow back in calf is one of the most important events on the calendar. To stimulate fertility use Tub QS (Quick Serve). This tub is ideal for any cows or heifers if bulling is sluggish or the calving period needs tightening. Containing a full specification of high quality nutrients Tub QS also contains Orvec Stimulus, which is our own unique patented formula which is proven over many years to give results where a normal mineral approach has failed. Feed for 6 weeks only, beginning 21 days before service. Trial data is available on request.
On the other end of the spectrum, good management of the dry period is essential for cow and calf health. By using Easi-Calver liquid feed, you can help to avoid some of the major metabolic diseases that can affect pre-calving cows. Easi-Calver liquid feed contains low pH magnesium to rapidly aid the utilisation of body calcium reserves, thus reducing the risk of Milk Fever. We also include Acetona which utilises body reserves and aids liver function to help prevent Ketosis. Easi-Calver should be made available to all dry dairy and suckler cows 'off the ball' ideally from 8 weeks pre-calving.
Insect control is always important in the summer. Not only can flies, midges and ticks spread disease, but it has been shown that the irritation that they cause can result in weight loss of up to 300g/hd/day liveweight in cattle. Our Tub FLY contains Repel-Ex, a unique combination of 15 elements designed to be extruded through the skin creating an odour which flies and midges find hostile.
Eliminate drying costs and protect your grain with Grainsave Triple Action preservative. A new grain additive designed to preserve and protect grain against mould, mites & mycotoxins, which also reduces dust. Unlike acids, its pH is almost neutral so is safe to handle and easy on machinery. Launching this month, please ask your local territory sales manager for more information.
