Seasonal Advice - July 2009
The weather continues to remain unsettled, with snow falling in the north in the early part of June. There have been a few farmers who have taken hay off the fields, perhaps earlier than they would have liked, just to be on the safe side. We are having a lot of very seasonal enquiries, so please read on......
Fly Nuisance?
Irritation from flies can cause producers to lose up to 300g/hd/d liveweight, as well as increasing the risk of disease spread. Tub Fly contains Repel-Ex which has a unique combination of 15 natural elements which are extruded through the skin, creating an odour which flies find offensive. This is combined with a full trace element specification to maintain health and growth rates and Live yeast to aid rumen function. This is a fantastic product for all growing cattle and suckler cows, although it is not recommended for lactating dairy cows.
Repel-Ex is also included in our Tub EC + FLY (Easi-Calver+FLY) for all summer calving cows.
Tupping
For all early lambing flocks, tupping is just around the corner, and for this correct nutrition is a must. For all shepherds that are looking to bring their lambing forward, we would recommend Tub ST (Super Tup). Tub ST contains Orvec Stimulus which helps to improve fertility and increase sexual activity, as well as containing a complete spectrum of vitamins and minerals to improve overall health and nutrition.
Effective production from grass
For all cattle producers, balancing the deficiencies in grazing at this time of year can be difficult. We would advise that you use Easi-Graze, this liquid feed is ideal when trace elements and energy are required with no added protein. Easi-Graze is a simple self-help solution, providing you with a reliable intake and the option to add "extras" to suit your on-farm situation. Please discuss this further with your local representative.
Organic?
If you are an organic producer and are looking to supplement your grazing with some trace elements, we would suggest Tub SG (Simply Green). This is a Soil Association approved tub that has a seaweed base. With added selenium, iodine and zinc, this tub can help to balance deficient grazing and improve overall animal health, without the need to obtain a derogation.
