The weather has been much improved towards the end of March, which has been a welcome relief. Fingers crossed that it lasts and it is a sign that we may at long last get a decent summer. We have been getting a lot of calls about several different animal health issues affecting stock this spring. Please read on for further advice.....
This disease continues to cause problems for both lambs and calve alike. Coccidiosis can seriously affect growth rates and affect lifetime performance. Our medicated range of Tubbys are a reliable way to reduce coccidiosis burden and allow stock to grow and perform to their full potential. Coxi-Clear Lamb or Coxi-Clear Calf should be made routinely available as part of the management practice where coccidiosis may be a problem.
For the past 2 years the practice of making silage has been fraught with difficulties, and the silage quality at feeding out was disappointing. With this in mind, perhaps now is the time to consider this year's options. The Denis Brinicombe Group have a fantastic range of biological silage additives, Biophage, to suit all weather conditions and varieties of forage. The Biophage range contains 6 different additives for grass silage alone. A large amount of trial data on the improvements to stock performance when fed Biophage treated silage, is available on request. Please consult your local representative or the mineral clinic for more information.
For all spring calving herds, getting the cow back into calf is a priority. A missed service or failure to hold can extend the calving period, the estimated cost of this is £3/head for every day over. Tub QS (Quick Serve) is designed to improve heat detection, boost fertility and conception rates. We would recommend that this is fed for a total period of 6 weeks, 3 weeks prior to service and 3 weeks after. Quick Serve is available as a tub, Tub QS, or as granules Orvec Stimulus.
